Book Review: Louie and Bear in the Land of Anything Goes by Brady Smith
Synopsis: Welcome to the Land of Anything Goes! It’s a world filled with wild creatures, absurd chicken-boy hybrids, and oh, did we mention the giant,winged, kid-eating monster called a Cacapoop?
When Louie and his pet hamster get sucked through a portal into a bizarre new land where truly anything can happen, they have no idea the adventure that’s waiting for them. Really, they’re less focused on adventure and more concerned about the fact that Louie has turned into a wrestler, Scooty the hamster has become Bear the giant bear, and they’re now being chased across a purple planet by a terrifying monster! When they find other kids stuck on the planet too, they learn that things are even worse than they feared — dozens of kids are trapped by the dastardly Hairy Larry, and it’s up to Louie to save them all. And if that wasn’t worrying enough, Bear can’t even find a single burrito to eat! In order to make it home alive, Louie and Bear will have to embrace their destinies and save the day… or be stranded in the Land of Anything Goes forever.
Love Grey’s Review: A Whole Lot of Laughs and a Little Bit of Bathroom Humor!
Some books make you smile, some make you laugh, and then there are books that make you laugh so hard you can barely get through the page! That’s exactly what happened when Greyson read Louie and Bear in the Land of Anything Goes by Brady Smith!
Greyson absolutely loved this graphic novel. From the beautiful, colorful illustrations to the silly storyline, there was so much to enjoy. The pictures really caught her attention, and she loved how much personality and humor the illustrations brought to the story.
A Colorful World Full of Fun
One of Greyson’s favorite things about this book was the artwork. She loved the beautiful, bright, and colorful pictures throughout the graphic novel. The illustrations helped bring the crazy world of Louie and Bear to life and made the story even more entertaining.
There were also a couple of moments that really stood out to her. She especially loved the pizza party scene and the part with the sludge hammer. Those were definitely some of her favorite moments!
Warning: Prepare for Some Serious Laughing!
Now, let’s talk about the humor!
This book has some pretty silly and, at times, inappropriate humor that Greyson found absolutely hilarious. In particular, there was a certain pass-gas scene that sent her into a fit of laughter.
And when I say laughter, I mean she COULD NOT regain her composure! Sometimes, as a parent, you just have to sit back and let them enjoy the moment. This was definitely one of those times!

A Graphic Novel Worth Reading
What made this book such a hit with Greyson was the combination of a fun storyline, colorful illustrations, unexpected adventures, and laugh-out-loud moments.
It’s one of those books that keeps you turning the pages because you never quite know what is going to happen next. And apparently, you should also be prepared for a few jokes that might make the grown-ups raise an eyebrow!
Would Greyson Recommend It?
Absolutely! Greyson highly recommends Louie and Bear in the Land of Anything Goes to kids who enjoy graphic novels, colorful illustrations, silly adventures, and a good laugh.
Overall, she thought it was a great, fun storyline, and she had a wonderful time reading it. If your child enjoys books that don’t take themselves too seriously and are filled with plenty of laughs, this one is worth adding to the reading list!
