Grey’s Spring School Pic & Ways We Make Picture Day FUN!

Greyson enjoys school picture days. She typically runs in with the flyer to let me know that day is coming and we need to prepare for it. She always assumes that the next school day after receiving the flyer will be picture day, so I always show her the date on the flyer and the calendar to let her know when exactly the big picture day is happening. Additionally, I let her know when we will shop for the lucky picture day outfit.

This time around Greyson wasn’t feeling well so I ended doing the shopping by myself. The dress that I bought her from Nordstrom’s Rack ended up being too big for her so, she decided that she wanted to wear her green dress that she wore last year for her first school dance. (Yep, her school had a dance when she was in kindergarten.) She hadn’t worn it since the dance, so I totally forgot about it since it was in the far end of her closet, but she didn’t! I also allowed her to wear a necklace for picture day, and I typically reiterate how important it is that she leaves it on during the day and doesn’t play with it. Fortunately, we haven’t had any issues with this, and the necklace always comes back.

The morning of picture day, I have Greyson practice smiling in the mirror. She sometimes has a difficult time perfecting her smile often she over does it. She concentrates so hard on doing what is asked of her that it the smile feels more forced than relaxed. So, we practice relaxing our faces in the mirror and gently adding our smile. This tends to work and many times her simply saying “cheese” helps her to relax. We have been very fortunate to have great photographers to help capture great photos of Greyson.

About this picture: This picture was taken last month (March 2025). We picked the cherry blossom background since it gave off spring vibes. Greyson likes to tell others that sees this photo that it’s actually a background and that she wasn’t really outside when she took the picture. 🙂

Up Next: I will take her shopping to buy a frame for one of her pictures. We typically go to Homegoods, Michael’s, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls for a frame. Lately, I’ve been buying 5X7 pictures and I buy enough for us to have one and one for each of her grandparents. To make this a great gift to send out to the grandparents I let her pick a card to send it in and have her sign it and decorate the envelope.

Bottom Line: Make picture day prep and the actual day fun! You will be happy with the results!

Stay Tuned! I will update this post to showcase the frame she chose with the picture in it!
